The ACS Division of Chemical Information Business Meeting was called to order by Chair Carol Duane at 4 p.m. The minutes of the 1996 business meeting were read by Ann Bolek. Charles Gragg moved to approve the minutes; Patricia O'Neill seconded. The minutes were approved as read.

Awards: Margaret M. Buck, a student at Rutgers, received the Lucille Wert Scholarship Award. The 1997 Herman Skolnik Award will be presented at the division luncheon in Stardust Salon 9, and Carol Duane still has tickets. An award reception in honor of Johann Gasteiger and sponsored by FIZ Chemie will take place in Stardust Salon 6 on Tuesday evening. The Herman Skolnik Symposium begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and continues until Wednesday afternoon. Appreciation is extended to those who sponsored this symposium. Invitations to the symposium and reception are on the membership table. Gary Wiggins shall receive the 1998 Herman Skolnik Award.

Web: Academic Library Symposium posters have been posted on the Web. We are the only division to put a symposium on their Web page.

News items from this meeting will be posted shortly after this meeting. We shall re-institute publication of the Administrative Issue and eliminate the newsletter. News shall appear on the Web first, then the bulletin. Abstracts for the technical sessions are on the Web.

Boston: The division will celebrate its 50th anniversary as a division in Boston. The Tri-Society Symposium (joint with the Special Libraries Association and the American Society for Information Science) is entitled Untangling the Web of Chemical Information. The Herman Skolnik Symposium will also take place in Boston. If anyone would like to help, please see Charles Gragg.

CHMINF-L Listserv: The Executive Committee voted to support the Chemical Information Sources Discussion List (CHMINF-L) listserv when it becomes private on 1 January 1998. Bob Buntrock asked whether the list will charge a subscription. SLA's Chemistry Division also agreed to support the listserv; there will not be any individual charges.

Announcement: The first Joint Council Committee on Publications and Chemical Abstracts Service Open Meeting begins at 4:30 p.m.

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
