2009 Lucille M. Wert Scholarship to Kristin Whitman

The scholarship administered by the Division of Chemical Information of the American Chemical Society consists of a $1,500 grant and a complimentary one-year CINF membership. It is designed to help persons with an interest in the field of Chemical Information to pursue graduate studies in Library Information or Computer Science. The 2009 award will be presented to Kristin Whitman. Kristin has a BS in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary, and she is currently a first year student in the Master of Library and Information Science course at Rutgers University.

Kristin has worked for the professional patent searching company Landon IP, Inc. since 2005, and she is currently a senior content editor with a special interest in chemical patent information retrieval, including Markush structures. Her expertise led her to contribute a chapter to a book on patent searching (Patent Searching: Tools and Techniques, John Wiley & Sons, 2007.) The challenges of patent searching encouraged her to want to gain a greater understanding of this complex area through post-graduate study.

Congratulations Kristin and good luck with your studies.

The deadline for nominations for the 2010 award is February 1, 2010.
