Webinar: The deployment of an app from Open Data feeds and algorithms

Date: December 13, 2012
Time: 11 am Eastern time (US)

Abstract: This presentation will outline strategies for collecting, processing and disseminating chemical information as Open Data with the ultimate application of deploying a recrystallization app for mobile devices. The collection and modeling of open melting point and solubility datasets will be discussed, as well as their integration to construct the final app. Other web services based on these data feeds will also be detailed, allowing for data access and querying through a browser interface or Google Spreadsheets using Google App Scripts.

Speaker: Jean-Claude Bradley is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Drexel University. He leads the UsefulChem and Open Notebook Science Challenge projects, initiatives designed to make the scientific process as transparent as possible by publishing all research work in real time to a collection of public blogs, wikis and other web pages. Currents projects focus on open collections and open modeling of solubility and melting point data. Applications include drug discovery and the creation of an app to recommend solvents for recrystallization.
