Objective

The division fosters the sharing of expertise in science informatics, information technology, and librarianship to ensure members benefit from the experience of others and are able to improve the dissemination and utilization of scientific information. We do this through innovative, high quality programming, education, career mentoring, collaboration and outreach, and recognition of excellence.

Mission

The ACS Division of Chemical Information (CINF) is committed to promoting the generation of, access to, and use of the world's knowledge base in chemistry and the related sciences.

Career

Your job and your location may change several times during the span of your professional career. The most constant element of your career will be your professional society. The CINF Division of the American Chemical Society can assist you with:

CINF has been a career resource for its members since 1943. Make CINF the professional society for your career.

Programming

CINF organizes symposia, receptions, and luncheons at ACS national meetings for members to network and discuss the latest topics in Chemical Information. Generated by members, recent symposia have focused on chemical nomenclature, skills for student success, data visualization, drug discovery, natural language processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, open-source tools, and more. CINF members are also active in international organizations such as the Chemical Structure Association (CSA) Trust, Research Data Alliance (RDA), IUPAC, and the InChI Trust.

Publications

The Chemical Information Bulletin (CIB) is published on the CINF website and contains news, notes, interviews, book reviews among other subjects. It also publishes the abstracts of Divisional symposia presentations before each National ACS meeting, and a post-meeting news roundup.

Resources

CINF co-sponsors the Chemical Information Discussion List, CHMINF-L. With an archive dating back to 1991, CHMINF-L gives you quick access to a virtual reference desk that is staffed with some of the best chemistry librarians, information specialists and chemists. For more information, visit: https://list.iu.edu/sympa/suboptions/chminf-l.

The Division periodically sponsors free webinars on topics of interest to the chemical information community. These can be found at the ACS Webinars page.
